Seymour Island Migratory Bird Sanctuary

Grise Fiord & Resolute, High Arctic, Qikiqtaaluk

 

The Seymour Island Migratory Bird Sanctuary is located in the remote High Arctic. The nearest Nunavut communities are Grise Fiord and Resolute. Established in 1975, it is 2,800 hectares in size, including all of Seymour Island and the surrounding waters. The Seymour Island sanctuary is considered an Important Bird Area. The entire island is an International Biological Programme Site and also a Key Marine Habitat Site. Its bird species include Atlantic brants, snowy owls, jaegers, long-tailed skuas, ivory gulls and ravens.
